How to Improve Your Indoor Air Quality

Most of us spend much more time indoors than outside. This is why it’s so important to take care of the indoor air and keep it clean and easy for breathing. The better the air the healthier you are.

Here are some of the simplest and the most effective ways to improve your indoor air quality:

Clean room gives fresh and comfortable air. Get yourself used to vacuuming floors and carpets, dusting surfaces regularly to get rid of pollutants (dust, pollen, mold, pet dander, etc.). It’s a hard work but you will soon enjoy the result.

Let fresh air into the room. For this reason, get your windows open from time to time. This practice will surely bring a good portion of oxygen in and move pollutants out of the room. Just 10-15 minutes at a time will make you feel the difference. If the air outside is not fresh enough because of cars rushing back and forth along the street, do it early in the morning or late in the evening. Don’t forget to take opportunity to let the air into the room after rain.

Houseplants make the indoor air pure and fresh. If you have plants at home or in your office you are lucky to breathe clean air because they absorb toxins and enrich the indoor air with oxygen. The most useful and recommended houseplants are philodendron scandens, spider plant, Chinese evergreen, aloe vera, golden pothos etc. So choose the houseplant you like most and do your best to make your home and office green.

Try to use mild and natural cleaners and air fresheners. Remember that cleaners and air fresheners with strong artificial fragrances contain a lot of hazardous chemicals that are usually not mentioned on their labels. Thus try to select household products with mild natural fragrances made by ECO-oriented companies. The fewer perfumes in the air, the better.

Controlling humidity level makes sense. The most comfortable air humidity level is between 30 and 60 percent. So if the moisture goes up use dehumidifiers or humidifiers when it goes down. And be sure to have proper ventilation in your home or office.

Get air filters. Good air is easy to breath. Air filter is an effective way to remove pollutants from the air and make you forget about that disgusting feeling of dust, pollen and mold floating around. It’s very important to change air filters regularly, every 30-60 days. The more polluted the air indoors the oftener you will have to do it. Plus your HVAC system will run more efficiently, which will help you save money.
